Education Programs & Advice

PAWS offers Pet Safety, Care and Education programs to elementary school children which teach safety around pets. We also talk about pets' basic needs, grooming, vet care, training, different kinds of pets.  We talk to class members about kindness to animals, how to walk dogs properly, and then the class members take the dogs for 45 minutes to an hour for walks, companionship and hugs. Our programs has been well received at Canyon/Lister School, Wynndel Elementary School, and is continuing to be a popular event at Adam Robertson Elementary School (ARES).

Our program is also very popular with youth groups and local daycare facilities. PAWS would be very happy to present this program to all local schools, clubs an daycares. Just give Claudia's Place Shelter a call at 250-428-7297 to book a presentation to your children.

Pet Education

Therapy Dogs were on hand to help make a Pet Safety presentation to this ARES Grade 5 class.  The kids learned how to approach dogs and cats properly, when not to approach them, and what to do if they are approached by a dog they do not know.  The class was enjoyed by all and even the teachers said they learned a lot about pet behaviours!

PAWS also offers advice on: minor medical conditions (not instead of a vet visit); training both in obedience and behaviour; adopting the right breed for your situation; and even a lending library containing videos, books and magazines.
